Citizens' Press Documentation
The Mission Statement: The main goals of the Citizens' Press are:
1. To inform the reader about local, national, and international issues and news through in depth analysis in editorial styled articles. This will be achieved through constructive criticism carried out on specific reports of news that appear in the corporate and independent press as well as editorial pieces examining original news stories.
2. To inform the reader through analysis from multiple and clearly identified political points of view. The articles will be subjected to editorial review to ensure that there is consistency within the article with regards to the singular political point of view.
3. To inform the reader on what the differing points of view are, where they are coming from, and where these ideologies lead.
4. To allow for informed and rational discussion of issues through constructive dialogue. Responses to specific articles from opposing economic/social ideologies will be encouraged. All articles will have to follow a specific ideology and will be limited in the use of rhetorical statements that are not accompanied by either an explanation or examples.
5. To systematically avoid and challenge the Propaganda Model of corporate journalism. This will be achieved through analyses that point out the underlying assumptions the reader (and media) has on issues and challenging these assumptions. Specifically this will be carried out by liberalizing limits on the length of articles, allowing responses to all articles in the form of comments and editorials, as well as making independent news available to the reader. It is not the intended goal of the site to challenge the Propaganda Model in every article. Instead, the site as a whole should give the reader access to multiple viewpoints on each topic and allow the reader to know specifically where those views are coming from.
All articles are to be maintained under a GNU-like or Creative Commons license depending on the Author's wishes.
